21st Century Love

Is it just me, or does it feel like relationships just don't happen organically anymore? We would certainly like to think so! It seems that movies and television about love portray the perfect relationships. In movies, the man and the woman always meet in the most original ways, fall in love, have a misunderstanding, break-up, and then eventually find there way back to eachother where they live happily ever after. But in reality, this fairy tale meet doesn't happen that often.
Our nation is filled with independent people. Once upon a time, marriages and relationships were found in high school or in college. Now, starting out life is so important that we have pushed relationships further..and further...and further. Now, it isn't strange if a woman doesn't get married until she is 35 years old. With the internet expanding and the accessibility to relationships found there, it is known that 1 in 4 relationships are now found online. According to DatingSitesReviews.com, married couples who met online have an average courtship period of 18.5 months. Married couples who met offline courtship period last on average 42 months. So this brought me to the question, "If Dating sites usually end in failure, then why is that 30% of Americans have or are using online dating?"
Well, that brings me back to the woman not getting married until she is 35. The internet brings a fast easy way to meet people without actually having to 'go out'. Internet dating is where you forget about the saying 'opposites attract' and you find the person who's perfectly compatible with you. But are they really, if the majority of the marriages online end up in divorce? Are we loosing our ability to organically meet a person? In the end, were all searching for the perfect man/woman. Should it really matter how we find them?
